Mary French (Bushell) was a stalwart of the National netball community and one of a number of Dartchelor netballers who played for England.  She would have been ninety in February but sadly she died just after Christmas. She was honoured by the All England Netball Association (AENA) recently with a LIfetime Achievement Award and was looking forward to the 90th birthday commemorations of the organisation, which co-incided with her own celebration of reaching nine decades. Mary had also just received a Special Service Award by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA).

Mary was at school from 1936 to 1943. She taught games for much of her adult life and was selected to pay for Surrey, then gained a place in the England team.  She was captain of the England team for some time and on one occasion five of the seven in the team were ex Datchelor women.  Eventually she stepped down from playing internationally and immersed herself in promoting neball worldwide.

Mary's funeral will take place on Thursday 29 January at Beckenham Crematorium at 10.30am. The crematorium is in Elmers Emd Road, Beckenham BR3 4TD. Any donations in her memory should go to St Christopher's hospice.  Mary's family are happy for Datchelor representatives to attend.
